A Pakistani immigrant doctor convicted of trying to arrange his ex-wife’s slaying has been sentenced to prison

A Pakistani physician convicted of attempting to hire a hitman to kill his ex-wife has been sentenced to seven years in prison. Shafik Ahmad, 49, appeared in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court before visiting Judge John Kessler, who presided over Ahmad’s trial in January 2011. Ahmad was convicted of one count of conspiracy to commit murder. “You never respected me as your wife or the mother of your child,” Kristin Hornsby told Ahmad during the sentencing hearing. “I’ve experienced your violent tendencies in the past.” She also told Ahmad that his actions had hurt their son most of all. Kessler told Ahmad, a Pakistani, that he expected that he would lose his medical license and that he would be deported after his prison sentence, but added that those questions would be decided by other authorities.
