A policeman has been killed by a mob protesting at alleged police inaction in the Indian state of Rajasthan

Chief inspector Phool Mohammad was burnt alive by locals in Sawai Madhopur district about 100 miles south-east of Jaipur city. The officer was attacked while investigating the death of a man who had jumped to his death in protest at the recent killing of a woman. Locals are angry that the police have yet to make arrests in the case. "Mr Mohammad was burnt alive by the agitated mob which torched his Jeep when he reached the spot where a man jumped from a water tank in the Mantown area in Sawai Madhopur," senior Rajasthan police officer Navdeep Singh said. A dozen policemen were also injured when the mob attacked them with stones.
