Labor's claim that a new
points-based immigration system will stop Britain’s population rocketing to 70 million has been dealt a hammer blow by independent experts. The House of Commons library predicts the policy will reduce an estimated population growth of ten million by as little as 250,000 over the next two decades. It would leave a population of around 70,750,000 by 2031, compared with the current Whitehall prediction of 71 million. It is the equivalent of reducing population growth by as little as 2.5%.
