The live-in lover of disgraced gay Jewish politician Carl Kruger asked federal authorities to transfer him to the same medium-security upstate prison as the former senator

Michael Turano's lawyer, Robert Katzberg, said that the main reason for the arrangement was to make it easier for Turano's ailing mother, 74-year-old Dorothy "Dottie" Turano, to visit her loved ones -- Turano and Kruger. Turano has been sentenced to two years in the federal lockup and Kruger to seven years after the pair were convicted in a "pay to play" bribery scheme. They share a $1.8 million Mill Basin mansion with Turano's mother and brother Gerard. Katzberg asked federal Judge Jed Rakoff to pass to the Bureau of Prisons his request to assign Turano to the Otisville Satellite Camp, just 70 miles northwest of New York City in Orange County. Judge Rakoff agreed to a request from Kruger's lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, to send him to Otisville "for religious and dietary reasons." Kruger is Jewish and Otisville offers kosher food. Otisville was called one of America's "10 Cushiest Prisons" by Forbes magazine. It is also known because Bernie Madoff tried - and failed - to get assigned there, and the character Gordon Gekko served his time there after being convicted in the movie "Wall Street."
