A black man charged with killing a pair of nine-year-old twins and their 73-year-old caretaker has been arrested in a police raid in Alabama

Deandra Marquis Lee was apprehended at an apartment complex in Selma after someone called in a tip to a hotline set up by state officials. Lee is a suspect in the slayings of Jordan Dejerinett and his twin sister Taylor, as well as 73-year-old Jack Mac Girdner. According to investigators, Girdner was a retired anesthesiologist who sometimes looked after the children while their mother was at work. He had known the family for about three years after meeting them at church. The bodies of all three were found dumped along a dirt road off Route 21 not far from Girdner’s home in Hope Hull. Police said that all three victims were shot to death. At the time of the killings, Lee was out on bail on felony gun and robbery charges. It was not immediately clear what was the motive behind the killings, or whether Lee knew any of the victims. Lee was arrested on December 15, 2011 in Dallas County and charged with a felony count of possessing a firearm with an altered serial number, obstruction of justice, resisting arrest and violation of a license to carry a pistol, said District Attorney Jackson. In February 2012, Lee was arrested on a third-degree robbery charge related to a car theft in 2011. He was released on bond in that case as well. Previously, the 22-year-old was found not guilty on two counts of capital murder and one count of attempted murder stemming from a 2008 shooting, according to officials. Lee was riding in a car with three suspected fellow gang members when a dispute erupted over a gun, Jackson said. In the end, two men were shot and a third was wounded. The jury acquitted Lee after he and the survivor each accused the other of the slayings.
