An elderly woman was mercilessly beaten up by a group of villagers for allegedly practising witchcraft in the East Champaran district of India

Rampati Devi of Sirisiya village sustained serious head injuries and has been admitted to Motihari Sadar Hospital. According to sources, a group of villagers caught hold of her and beat her up with lathis and rods. Two family members, including a woman, were also injured when they tried to save her. An FIR has been lodged in this connection with Piparakothi police station by the victim against four persons.
