Statistics for
Britain show that 48% of black Caribbean families and 36% of black African families are headed by a lone parent, usually a woman. Increasing numbers of highly educated professional black women in Britain could be facing the same fate as their counterparts in the United States, where figures released in April 2011 show that as many as 42% of African-American women have never married, double the number for white women.
