New Orleans: A black prison guard was fired and arrested for raping and kidnapping an inmate

Dejuan R. Thomas, 38, was arrested after an inmate reported Thomas's actions and the sheriff's office opened an investigation, said sheriff's office spokesman Marc Ehrhardt. Thomas was arraigned in Orleans Parish Magistrate Court and is being held in protective custody with the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office on a $105,000 bond, Ehrhardt said. He is being charged with aggravated rape, second degree kidnapping and sexual malfeasance in office. Thomas has been employed as an Orleans Parish deputy since September 2009.
