Indian taxi driver arrested for rape in New York City

Gurmeet Singh, 40, has been arrested in the knifepoint rape of an East Village woman who trusted him for a safe ride home from Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The 26-year-old woman fell asleep in the cab — and woke up to find her hands bound with a scarf while the driver raped her. Singh also stole the woman’s phone and $20. He is further suspected of assaulting a 31-year-old woman in Harlem. In that case, the victim was also intoxicated and hailed the suspect’s cab to get home. She was robbed after the assault.
