Five members of the same Asian family have been charged with severely neglecting a dozen mentally disabled adults who were in their care while they lived off their social security checks

Kathy Le, George Dac Nguyen, Jennifer Ngo, Charles Nguyen and Margaret Ngo kept the victims - as well as 25 dogs - as near-prisoners in their upscale, two-storey San Jose home. They are expected to enter pleas during an arraignment in Santa Clara County Superior Court on charges of dependent-abuse and animal neglect. They could spend up to 18 years in prison if convicted.
