Nechemya Weberman
faces up to 117 years in prison after being convicted on 59 counts. The most serious charge, “course of sexual conduct against a child in the first degree” carries a maximum sentence of 25 years. In a trial that has upended the insular community of Brooklyn followers of the Satmar branch of Hasidic Jews, the girl accuses Weberman of first abusing her in 2007, when she was 12.
