California: Despite decades of effort and billions of dollars in funding, test scores for white, Asian American and wealthier students are much higher than those of their black, Latino and low-income peers

On computerized tests administered in the spring, for example, just 19% of African American students were proficient in math, compared with 73% of Asian American students. In San Francisco, school leaders noted that the city was the only urban district in the state where more than half of students were proficient in both math and English. The middle schools showed significant gains this year in both subjects, with students of color mirroring the increases. The achievement gap actually widened, though, including a 58-point difference between white and black San Francisco students in English — a 77% proficiency rate compared with 19%.

In 2015, a police officer was 18.5 times more likely to be killed by a black male than an unarmed black male was to be killed by a police officer

Black males have made up 42% of all cop-killers over the last decade, though they are only 6% of the population. That 18.5 ratio undoubtedly worsened in 2016, in light of the 53% increase in gun murders of officers — committed vastly and disproportionately by black males. Nearly 900 additional blacks were killed in 2016 compared with 2015, bringing the black homicide-victim total to 7,881. Among all homicide suspects whose race was known, white killers of blacks numbered only 243.

An international team of researchers has found that a genetic variant carried almost exclusively by African Americans significantly reduces the accuracy of the standard test for type 2 diabetes, the glycated haemoglobin or HbA1c test

The test measures the amount of glucose that is carried by the red blood cells over the previous two to three months. At least one copy of the variant in the G6PD gene is carried by around 11% of African Americans. This means that around 650,000 African Americans in the United States could have undiagnosed type 2 diabetes if tested with the HbA1c test alone. The results suggest screening for G6PD alongside the diagnostic test, or using other diagnostic tests in populations with African ancestry in order to improve diagnoses of type 2 diabetes.

The presence of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) varied significantly in the tumors of African-American and European-American women with triple negative breast cancer (TNBC)

TNBC is a highly aggressive breast cancer subtype that afflicts African-American women at a higher rate than white women, and often involves a worse prognosis. Previous research has shown that African-American women tend to develop more aggressive subtypes of TNBC than European-American women, exacerbating the disparity in survival.

By 2024, median Black and Latino households are projected to own 60-80% less wealth than they did in 1983

Black families have been losing savings, property, and wealth for thirty years, and will reach a median wealth of zero in 26 years. Median Black household wealth is on a path to hit zero by 2053 and median Latino household wealth is projected to hit zero by 2073.

One woman was killed and seven other people were hurt after a suspect identified as a Sudanese immigrant opened fire at a Tennessee church

The suspect, 25-year-old Emanuel Kidega Samson, immigrated from Sudan two decades ago, police said. He's suspected of bringing at least two pistols and a mask to the predominantly white Burnette Chapel Church of Christ in Antioch, southeast of Nashville. Metropolitan Nashville Police Department tweeted that Samson will be charged with murder and attempted murder. Law enforcement confirmed that Samson is a legal U.S. resident who immigrated from Sudan in 1996.

New research shows that all blue-eyed people share a common ancestor

All blue-eyed people have one ancestor in common, born around 6,000-10,000 years ago. Blue eyes are caused by a gene mutation. For years, researchers had searched for it on the OCA2 gene. The OCA2 gene determines how much brown pigment is in our eyes. But what they were looking for wasn't there at all. The mutation was found on an entirely different gene called HERC2. HERC2 turns off OCA2, meaning it turns off the brown and reveals the blue. Every blue-eyed person has this exact same mutation. Only people of European descent have blue eyes. It would also suggest that all blue-eyed people share a single European ancestor.

An 18-year-old black man has been charged with raping and murdering a homeless white mother before sexually assaulting her corpse

James Arthur House was arrested in Baltimore when he confessed to slaying and raping 35-year-old Jessica Gibson. The mother-of-four's body was found dumped behind large pallets on a downtown Baltimore access road. She had been sexually assaulted and strangled. House has been charged with murder, rape, perverted practice, reckless endangerment and sex offenses. Some of the sex acts House is charged with were carried out on Gibson's dead body.

Police have revealed what a black Muslim man said after beheading a co-worker in Oklahoma

Alton Nolen told police that he felt oppressed as a Muslim at the food plant by his co-workers, who he said teamed up against him. He spoke to them after being arrested for the attack. When the police asked him if he regretted his actions, he responded, “I don’t feel regret, because you know what I’ve done. That’s probably going to make Vaughan Foods a better place to work for a Muslim.” In September 2014, Nolen was suspended from his job at Vaughan Foods because a co-worker said that they had gotten into an argument after he said he didn’t like white people. Nolen returned with a knife, stabbed and beheaded 54-year-old Colleen Hufford, and attacked Traci Johnson, the woman who had issued the complaint about him. Authorities have presented as evidence in the trial that Nolen had a Koran and other “written scripture” in his apartment at the time of the attack. His Facebook page also had many signs of Islamic radicalization, including posts claiming, “Sharia Law is coming!!” and exhibiting pictures of beheadings and the Taliban. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in the ongoing trial.

Just 16 unarmed black men out of a population of more than 20 million were killed by the police in 2016 – down from 36 the year before

Only 0.08% of black men are injured by the police each year, approximately the same rate as for white men. A black man is about 44 times as likely to suffer a traffic-related injury.

Jews in the United States are driving America's wars

Why doesn’t anyone ever speak honestly about how Jewish power and money promotes war in the Middle East?

Startling genetic diversity indicates that ancient Papuans didn't even mix with each other: The ancestors of the Papuan New Guinean peoples arrived 50,000+ years ago, scattered into highland and lowland areas, and evidently kept to themselves since then, going by genetic and linguistic evidence

The latest twist in the history of humankind is that after ancestral Homo sapiens settled Papua New Guinea, which seems to have been around 50,000 to 70,000 years ago, they not only didn't budge. They not only didn't mix with the peoples around them, if any. They didn't even mix with each other, going by the startling degree of genetic and linguistic diversity found between groups of Papuans. In fact, the original occupants of both Papua New Guinea and, later, Australia, seem to have been a very sedentary bunch. The aborigines' forefathers reached Australia at least 50,000 years ago, scattered along the coastline for about 1,500 to 2,000 years and then, having struck roots wherever they struck roots, they didn't budge for the next 50,000 years. An unrelated study in 2016 postulated that aboriginal Australians and Papuans diverged from Eurasians anywhere from 70,000 to 50,000 years ago. This postulation is bolstered by the new study, which indicates that the Papuans would remain genetically independent from Europe and Asia for most of the last 50,000 years.

Two alleged Isis supporters who were born on Germany are to be deported from the country in the first such expulsion in history

The men, who hold Algerian and Nigerian citizenship, were arrested on suspicion of planning an imminent terror attack after a gun and Isis flags were found at their homes during police raids in Göttingen. They have not been prosecuted and the allegations have not been tested in a criminal court, but federal judges upheld their planned deportation, bolstering government plans to expel more foreign nationals believed to be terror threats. Boris Pistorius, the interior minister for Lower Saxony, said that the move sent a “nationwide signal to all fanatics, that we will give not even a centimeter for their inhuman plans. They will be met with the full severity of means at our disposal – whether they have grown up here [in Germany] or not”. Authorities in the state adopted a new law allowing them to expel terror suspects held to be dangerous in February 2017, amid nationwide security crackdowns following the Berlin attack. The two unnamed suspects launched an appeal to stay their expulsion from Germany but it was rejected by the Federal Administrative Court.
