189 years to close the racial achievement gap

Fifty percent of California students are proficient according to latest test scores, but when you break the figures down by race, it’s quite a different story. About 70% of white and Asian kids are proficient, but only 36% of black and Hispanic kids are. And at the current rate of progress in closing the black/white achievement gap, it will take nearly 200 years before it disappears.
