A level-three Hispanic sex offender less than a year out of prison was arrested when his parole officer recognized him as the pervert who molested two girls inside a laundry room

Mario Lopez, 52, asked the girls, ages 4 and 9, to follow him into the laundry room of their Jackson Heights building claiming that he wanted help with his wash. There, Lopez slapped the older girl’s buttocks and touched the younger girl under her clothes. He then offered the older child candy before fleeing the scene, according to the charges. Security cameras caught Lopez entering and exiting the building with ease. It is not clear why he chose that building or if he knew anyone who lived there. Parole officer Lisa Duquesnay saw the tape and tipped police off to the identity of the groper. Lopez, of Brooklyn, has been arrested and charged with burglary, sex abuse, luring a child to commit a crime and endangering the welfare of a child. He was released from prison in January 2012 after serving on sex abuse and kidnapping charges stemming from an attack on a 25-year-old woman in 2000. In that case, he approached a woman walking down a street and asked her for directions to Queens Center Mall. He convinced her to get into the car to help him get to the mall but instead drove to 36th St. and Vernon Blvd. where he sexually abused her. He pleaded guilty in December 2002 and was sentenced to prison in January 2003. Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said that Lopez is a “threat to children and a clear and present danger to society in general.”
