A black man has been accused of abusing his two week old daughter
Twenty three year old Andre Antonio Littlejohn from West Baltimore is accused of abusing his 2 week old newborn daughter. Paramedics responded to a home in the 4500 block of Weschester Road in West Baltimore where they found the newborn in distress. Court documents state that Andre woke up his fiance, the child's mother, to tell her that their daughter was bleeding from the genital area and having trouble breathing. Telling her that he could hear crackling sounds with her every breath and the front of her little chest was sinking in as she struggled to breathe, he also told her that he could feel something abnormal on her back. Rushed to Sinai Hospital, doctors discovered that the infant had multiple rib fractures, severe bruising all over her tiny body and even possible burning to her genital area indicating possible sex abuse. Andre told investigators that his daughter's injuries could have been caused by him squeezing his daughter too tight while he was running her bath or they could have been caused by her 1 year old brother, who was jealous, and had previously been caught sitting on her. A nurse reported to authorities that the evidence disputed all these claims and not only was Andre arrested and charged with numerous child abuse and assault charges but two other children - a 1 year old and a 5 year old - were removed from the home by Child Protective Services. While the newborn remains in stable condition at Sinai Hospital, Andre has denied the charges and the child's mother is fighting to get back her other two children. Although she is cooperating with authorities she does not think her fiance is responsible and has no idea how her daughter got abused. Andre is being held without bail at Baltimore Central Booking Intake Center and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on December 18, 2012.
