Men are genetically programed to decide in a fraction of a second if they are attracted to a woman or not
The reason for this is that facial attractiveness is a good indicator of female fertility which means that pretty women will generally produce more children - all other factors being equal.

Yeah we do make snap judgements, but it's not only fertility that we judge. I followed the link to the Telegraph article and saw the top part of the pictured woman and instantly felt attracted. Yet when I scrolled down and saw her odd shaped lips, I wasn't so keen. It's homogeneity as well as fertility that we look for.
But isn't it possible that there may be a connection between homogeneity and fertility? The fact that you found her lips to be odd-shaped may be an indicator that she would not be the most fertile woman for you to mate with.
Extreme diversity does equal infertility i.e. mating with another species isn't going to work. So in that sense mother nature does use homogeneity to keep us fertile.
I don't think there would be any practical signs of infertility if I were to mate with the odd-shaped lip woman. But, in theory, yes she is probably less fertile than a woman more visually compatible (apart from inbreeding with relatives).
So yes I think you're right. It's good to know mother nature is looking after us ...
