A Haitian immigrant, freed after the Obama Administration halted deportations to his native country, went on to kill three people
Twice convicted felon, Kesler Dufrene, was due to be deported after a five-year jail term ended in October 2010. But deportations to Haiti were temporarily halted after the country was rocked by a devastating earthquake. Two months after his release, Dufrene, 23, went on to slaughter three people including 15-year-old Ashley Chow in North Miami. Ashley, a High School student who dreamed of becoming a lawyer, lived in the house in the 400 block of Northwest 134th Street, along with other victims Harlen Peralta, 25, and her boyfriend, Israel Rincon, 35. After worried relatives called police on January 2, 2011, officers burst into the house to discover all three had been shot dead. DNA found on a rifle left inside the house and mobile phone tracking technology linked Dufrene to the murders. But before detectives could interrogate the drifter, Dufrene shot and killed himself during an unrelated burglary and shooting, 18 days after the murders.
