A police officer in eastern India was raped by a group of bandits who stopped her family's vehicle as they escorted her sister's body to be cremated

The officer, a 27-year-old widow and mother of two daughters, was raped despite pleas from her father and brother after the gang of ax-wielding men were infuriated by the family's lack of valuables.
