Jewish community protects child molester

An accused Brooklyn child molester charged with fondling a boy inside a Boro Park Y six years ago still frequents the kiddie-packed center. Arthur Samet, 48, was arrested in October 2008 and charged with sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child beginning in December 2001 at the 14th Ave. Young Men's and Young Women's Hebrew Association's (YM-YWHA) Jacuzzi, according to court records. The victim, now 19, came forward recently to report the alleged crime. Samet was arrested in 2007 on a charge of sexual misconduct, but the victim later refused to prosecute because of intense pressure from the Jewish community, police sources said. The case was later sealed. In the current case, investigators wanted to protect the victim from outside influence and did not officially notify the YMHA, sources said. The issue of molestation has become more visible in the insular Borough Park community in recent months because of several arrests. Samet is the third man charged with sexually or physically abusing a child.

Andy Rooney on discrimination

Andy Rooney:

"I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens...Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door."

A total of 30 million Brits have foreign ancestors, with 23% originating from Ireland

One in five Brits is of French or German descent with more than half able to trace their roots to outside the UK, according to social history website Ancestry.co.uk. Brits practice a variety of foreign traditions over Christmas. Decorating the Christmas tree is a German custom for example, while eating Christmas Turkey is American, and kissing under mistletoe is a Scandinavian tradition. Britain's foreign descendants originate from the following countries (in percentage):

Anti-white minorities

Asian gloats over the decline of white America. I always find it amazing that minorities hate whites so much and yet want to live in countries where the majority populations are white. Of course when you look at the non-white nations of Africa, Asia and Latin America it is pretty easy to see why. Unfortunately, for the minorities, once the United States becomes non-white it will probably become a hellhole like so many other non-white nations.

Our common ancestors

Guy White:

There are no races because we all have a common ancestor 150,000 years ago.

We also have a common ancestor with macaques 20 million years ago, so we are all the same.

We also have a common ancestor with rats and mice 80 million years ago, so we are no different from them.

In fact, if we go back far enough, we have a common ancestor with every living thing from a tree to the deadly O157:H7 version of the e.coli bacteria.

To liberals, it proves that we are no different from these. To me, it just proves that liberals are dumb as a piece of wood and destructive like a deadly bacteria.

A woman in Papua New Guinea was bound and gagged, tied to a log and set ablaze on a pile of tires

A woman in rural Papua New Guinea has been bound and gagged, tied to a log and set ablaze on a pile of tires, possibly because villagers suspected her of being a witch, police have said. Her death adds to a growing list of men and women who have been accused of sorcery and then tortured or killed in the South Pacific island nation, where traditional beliefs hold sway in many regions. The victims are often scapegoats for someone else's unexplained death, and bands of tribesmen collude to mete out justice to them for their supposed magical powers, police said. "We have had difficulties in a number of previous incidents convincing people to come forward with information," said Simon Kauba, assistant commissioner of police and commander of the Highlands region, where the killing occurred. "We are trying to persuade them to help. Somebody lost their mother or daughter or sister Tuesday morning." A group of people dragged the woman, believed to be in her late teens to early 20s, to a dumping ground outside the city of Mount Hagen. They stripped her naked, bound her hands and legs, stuffed a cloth in her mouth, tied her to a log and set her on fire, Kauba said. "When the people living nearby went to the dump site to investigate what caused the fire, they found a human being burning in the flames," he said. "It was ugly." More than 50 people have been killed in two Highlands provinces in 2008 for allegedly practicing sorcery. In a well-publicized case in 2008, a pregnant woman gave birth to a baby girl while struggling to free herself from a tree. Villagers had dragged the woman from her house and hung her from the tree, accusing her of sorcery after her neighbor suddenly died. She and the baby survived, according to media reports. The killing of witches, or sangumas, is not a new phenomenon in rural areas of the country. Emory University anthropology professor Bruce Knauft, who lived in a village in the western province of Papua New Guinea in the early 1980s, traced family histories for 42 years and found that one in three adult deaths were homicides -- "the bulk of these being collective killings of suspected sorcerers," he wrote in his book, "From Primitive to Postcolonial in Melanesia and Anthropology." In recent years, as AIDS has taken a toll in the nation of 6.7 million people, villagers have blamed suspected witches -- and not the virus -- for the deaths. According to the United Nations, Papua New Guinea accounts for 90% of the Pacific region's HIV cases and is one of four Asia-Pacific countries with an epidemic. "We've had a number of cases where people were killed because they were accused of spreading HIV or AIDS," Kauba said. While there is plenty of speculation concerning why the recent victim was killed, police said they are focused more on who committed the crime.

The jailing in Senegal of 9 gay men for 8 years over indecent conduct and unnatural acts has been condemned by an international gay rights group

Homosexual acts are illegal in Senegal but the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) has said it was shocked by the ruling. The judge added three years to a five-year sentence, saying the men were also members of a criminal group. Most of them belonged to an association set up to fight HIV and Aids. The head of a gay rights organization in Senegal said that the situation for gay people in the country was getting worse. "Many gays are already fleeing to neighboring countries because of our living conditions," he said, speaking on condition of anonymity. Senegal is a predominantly Muslim country and gay men and women remain socially marginalized.

African immigrants to U.S. bring girls in as maids

The trafficking of children for domestic labor in the U.S. is an extension of an illegal but common practice in Africa. Families in remote villages send their daughters to work in cities for extra money and the opportunity to escape a dead-end life. Some girls work for free on the understanding that they will at least be better fed in the home of their employer. The custom has led to the spread of trafficking, as well-to-do Africans - accustomed to employing children - emigrate to the United States. Around one-third of the estimated 10,000 forced laborers in the U.S. are servants trapped behind the curtains of suburban homes, according to a study by the National Human Rights Center at the University of California at Berkeley and Free the Slaves, a nonprofit group. It's not known how many are kids. These children never go to school. They live as modern-day slaves.

Britons flee London to be replaced by immigrants

The figures underline the huge flux within the population from not just international migration, but also British people moving around the country. According to the Halifax, the country's largest mortgage lender who closely monitors house ownership, 345,000 more British people left London than moved to the capital between 1998 and 2007. It is the only area in Britain that has suffered from a loss of population due to internal migration, suggesting its character is swiftly changing. However, this net loss from internal migration was more than offset by 1.8 million international migrants who arrived in the city during this period. The figures bring into question the Home Office's promise to keep the overall population below 70 million. The balance of those settling here over those leaving must be cut to just 50,000 a year if the population is not to pass the landmark total, according to Karen Dunnell, the National Statistician, in a letter to MPs in December 2008. The current net level of international migration is 237,000. Keith Woolas, immigration minister, vowed in October 2008 that the Government would not let the population go above 70 million but on current projections it will pass that within two decades.

Albinos make up about one in 4,000 people in South Africa and perhaps one in 5,000 in Nigeria

Three men armed with machetes killed an 8-year-old albino boy in Burundi recently and are believed to have smuggled his limbs to Tanzania, where witch doctors use albino body parts for potions. At least 35 albinos were killed in Tanzania in 2008, prompting police officials to set up an emergency hot line and a program to distribute free cell phones to all albinos. Albinism, a genetic disorder characterized by lack of melanin pigment in the skin, hair, and eyes, is listed as a rare disease by the National Institutes of Health—meaning it affects fewer than 200,000 Americans. Around the world, between one in 17,000 and one in 20,000 people are albinos. The prevalence in parts of Africa, however, is far higher than the global average. Albinos make up about one in 4,000 people in South Africa and perhaps one in 5,000 in Nigeria. According to a 2006 review published in the journal BMC Public Health, the prevalence in Tanzania is one in 1,400, but this estimate is based on incomplete data. Since Tanzania's total population is more than 40 million, that would suggest an albino community of about 30,000. A census is under way, however, and the Albino Association of Tanzania believes the total figure could be more than 150,000. A study published in 1982 notes that albinism is less common among the South African Zulu and Xhosa tribes (one in 4,500) than the Swazi and Sotho-Tswana tribes (one in 2,000). In Zimbabwe, about four-fifths of albinos belong to the majority ethnic group, the Shona.

Asian Son Preference Will Have Severe Social Consequences, New Studies Warn

Son Preference in Asia--Report of a Symposium

Asian immigrants use medical technology to have sons

Researchers are finding the first evidence that some Asian immigrant families are using U.S. medical technology to have sons instead of daughters, apparently acting on an age-old cultural prejudice that has led to high ratios of boys to girls in parts of China and India. The new research, produced by independent teams of economists who arrived at similar conclusions, focused on Indian, Chinese and Korean families who first had girls and then used modern technology to have a son. With birth records in Santa Clara County showing that Asian mothers are more likely to give birth to sons than white or Latino mothers are, the new data could reawaken a local controversy. Some local South Asian women have pressured local Indo-American newspapers and magazines in recent years to stop running ads for medical procedures that offer prospective parents the promise of a son. For some South Asian couples, having a boy is a "status symbol," said Deepka Lalwani of Milpitas, the founder and president of Indian Business & Professional Women, a nonprofit business support network. "If a woman has male children, she feels in her family, certainly with her in-laws, that her status will go up because now she is the mother of a male child." Such cultural pressures may explain the recent findings. A Columbia University study suggests that Chinese, Indian and Korean immigrants have been using medical technology, most likely including abortion, to assure their later children were boys. And a soon-to-be published analysis of birth records by a University of Texas economist estimates there were 2,000 "missing girls" between 1991 and 2004 among immigrant families from China and India living in the U.S. — children never born because their parents chose to have sons instead. "We didn't expect to see a male bias. And for the first child, we didn't find one. It seems to appear after a first daughter, and more strongly after a second daughter," said Douglas Almond, co-author of the Columbia study. Among Indian families in Santa Clara County in the 1990s, Texas economist Jason Abrevaya found a 58% chance of having a son among families that first had two girls — significantly higher than the natural 51% chance of having a boy. The teams found no comparable bias toward boys among white, African-American and Japanese-American families that first had girls.

Is Israel a strategic liability for the United States?

Michael F. Scheuer:

Israel is not only an unnecessary and self-made liability for the United States, it is an untreated and spreading cancer on our domestic politics, foreign policy, and national security. America has no genuine national security interests at stake in either Israel or Palestine; if they both disappeared tomorrow the welfare of Americans and the security of their country would not be impacted a lick. The Arab-Israeli religious war is a war that properly belongs solely to Israelis and Arabs; let them fight each other to the death with no interference in favor of either side from the United States. The continued, automatic, and idiotic identification of U.S. national interests as identical with Israel's made by our bipartisan political elite, the media, and those U.S. citizens who prefer Israeli to American security is only earning Americans deeper hatred and more wars with Muslims. There is no question that Israel has every right in the world to militarily defend itself to whatever extent it deems necessary, but neither Israel, the United States, nor any other nation has a "right" to exist. Nation-states survive if they can vanquish their enemies. The democratically elected Israeli government is right to try to vanquish Hamas; and the democratically elected Hamas regime has every right to try do the same to Israel. The point to keep squarely in view is that it does not matter to America's security who emerges the winner.
