A Delaware man thought he was doing the right thing when he offered help to a black man struggling to carry a big TV - until he recognized it as his own

The Wilmington man, who was coming home for lunch, also saw that his door was open, and confronted the burglar. When the suspect took off, the homeowner chased after him and called 911. The black suspect, 35-year-old Gary Hairston, jumped into a waiting getaway car, but police officers quickly caught up with the vehicle. But the saga wasn’t over yet. With the car cornered, Hairston suddenly leapt out of the car and led police on a short foot chase that only ended when officers Tased him. Hairston was charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest and conspiracy. There were several outstanding warrants out for the African-Americsn in relation to prior burglaries in the area. Since Hairston gave a fake name to officers as he was arrested, he was additionally charged with criminal impersonation. The getaway driver, fellow African-American Andrea Johnson, was also arrested and charged with conspiracy for her role in the crime.
