Nigerian Islamist group Boko Haram has said that it carried out gun and bomb attacks in the north-east of the country in which at least 63 people were killed

Nearly all of the fatalities were in the town of Damaturu, where a suicide bomber attacked police headquarters. The group, which wants to overthrow the government and create an Islamic state, says that it was also behind the bombing of the UN headquarters in the capital, Abuja, in June 2011.
