A 23-year-old Hispanic who is in the country illegally has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for attacking a family member with a knife in December 2010

Rodrigo Ibara Alfaro, agreed to plead guilty in October 2011 to one count of aggravated assault against a household member with a deadly weapon and battery against a household member. Prosecutors agreed to dismiss a second charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Alfaro is in the country illegally, having been convicted of alien inadmissibility and illegal re-entry, and faced mandatory time as a habitual offender, according to court documents. The sentence handed down by state District Court Judge Douglas Driggers will run at the same time as a federal sentence he is currently serving.
