Rep. G.K. Butterfield, D-N.C., suggested that the United States Supreme Court is participating in a racist "right-wing conspiracy" to restore Jim Crow-era laws to disenfranchise black Americans

Butterfield, second vice chair of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), believes that it is racist to expect voters to produce identification establishing who they are. He says that if North Carolina had a voter ID law before the 2008 presidential election, Obama might have lost.
