Why do Mexican immigrants prefer Arizona to New Mexico?

Steve Sailer explains that New Mexico is less attractive to Mexican immigrants than Arizona because it has a much larger Hispanic population which means that it is almost as economically backward as Mexico itself. Mexican immigrants know that if you want to find a job you must go to the states with the most white people.
