Black men, chronic pain and depression

Black men with chronic pain related to an accident, injury, illness, surgery or other causes were more likely to experience depression, affective distress and disability than white men with chronic pain, according to a new study. The research also showed that being a member of the black race was a predictor of lower neighborhood income, less education and lower marriage rates. Married men have fewer symptoms of depression than unmarried ones which meant that blacks were at a higher risk of depression than were whites.
