Breastfeeding children or giving them fish oil supplements with their milk does not make them more intelligent

Neither baby formula with omega-3 fatty acids nor breast milk were found to have any effect on brain power in research funded by the Food Standards Agency (FSA). However, the study noted that breastfed babies do tend to be smarter – but only because their mothers are. Children's Intelligence is strongly linked to those of their parents and brighter women are more likely to breastfeed. Once maternal intelligence and education is taken into account very little or no difference in IQ rates can be found.
