Fewer than a quarter of black male students in Palm Beach County graduated within four years of high school in 2008
A study looked at the number of black males who graduated in the 2007-08 school year with a regular high school diploma, which would enable them to go to college. Then it divided that by the number of black males who had been enrolled in ninth grade district-wide four years earlier. The study found that Palm Beach County's graduation rate for black males in the 2007-08 school year was 22%. That was significantly below the 37% graduation rate for black males in Florida as a whole and the 47% graduation rate for black males nationwide that year. In contrast, the graduation rate for white males was 50% in Palm Beach County, 57% in Florida as a whole and 78% nationwide.
