A deranged and abusive Hispanic said that he blow-torched his estranged wife to give her a little pain so that she would would learn a lesson

Carlos Diaz, 35, of Inwood, New York, torched Cathy Zapata, his 38-year-old wife and the mother of their 5-year-old son in mid-January 2013. "Now she can worry about our kid and get serious instead of focusing on going out and other men," Diaz said from his Rikers Island visitors room. Diaz turned himself after setting Zapata aflame in an Inwood lot and then dousing his old auto shop with gasoline. He said that he went berserk after he discovered a nude photo that Zapata had sent of herself to another man on her cell phone. Zapata had been living apart from her husband in nearby Harlem after leaving her husband. The two were married in 2007 and separated in 2010. They have a 5-year-old son together.
