A Latino illegally in the United States faces sexual assault charges

Samuel Castillo, 36, was arrested on January 9, 2013 and charged with first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a child. Detective Lt. Mark Walerysiak, the police spokesman, said that the victim of the assault was an 8-year-old girl known to Castillo. Walerysiak said that the incident was reported in early December 2012 when the girl, after hearing a commercial about breast cancer, told her parents about being assaulted. She was interviewed by child professionals and police secured a warrant for Castillo’s arrest, Walerysiak said. During the investigation, police also learned that Castillo was in the country illegally from Mexico, Walerysiak said. Castillo is being held in lieu of $200,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court on January 22, 2013.
