A black man remains in DuPage County Jail, after police said that he slashed a friend’s face with a kitchen knife during an argument over a burned chicken dinner

Andre L. Poole, 22, faces trial on felony charges of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and resisting or obstructing a police officer, according to records on file in DuPage County Circuit Court. His bond has been set at $7,500. Poole had the knife and two handguns in his possession at the time of his arrest. Poole apparently became enraged after his friend burned a chicken dinner on the stove. Poole grabbed a kitchen fillet knife and slashed the other man’s face in three places, including one cut below one of his eyes and another above the lip. One of the slashes was a deep cut. Poole was about to exit the building as police arrived, and didn’t comply with orders to get on the ground. Police, after subduing Poole, found the knife and two guns in his possession. Court records indicated that police arrested Poole in June 2010 on a misdemeanor charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, after he was found carrying an air rifle.
