A Hispanic man has been sentenced to a mandatory 45 years in prison for the 2009 murder of his three month-old son

Gustavo Torres-Medel grabbed his son under his arms and squeezed and shook the boy to stop him from crying, prosecutors said. He then threw his son into a child carrier, killing him in the process. An investigation by the DuPage County Children's Center, with the assistance of West Chicago Police Department and the Major Crimes Task Force, led to Torres-Medel's arrest and charge the following day. Torres-Medel was found guilty of First Degree Murder on June 10, 2011 under DuPage County Judge Kathryn Creswell. Torres-Medel will be required to serve 100% of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
