Seven black sex offenders were apprehended by police in cooperation with the U.S. Marshals Service for being in violation of the Sex Offender Community Notification Act

Police say that the arrests were a result of a detail to verify compliance of registered sex offenders in the city of Tuscaloosa. The detail was a combined effort of the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Marshal's Office, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and the Tuscaloosa Police Department. Officers physically contacted 78 sex offenders in the city's police jurisdiction. The roundup was performed at the same time as the new sex offender law was going into effect. The law requires sex offenders to register every three months and pay $10 each time. The new law went into effect on July 1, 2011. The old law required sex offenders to registered only twice a year. Those arrested include the following: Barney Lee Hurst, Darryl Lecarlo Anderson, Willie Earl Davis, Marcus Eon Parham, Steven Craig Newman, Jeremy David Smith and Tavaris Kendrell Mcshan.
