A 38-year-old Latina has been accused of dumping hot coffee on the leg of a black nursing assistant at UC Irvine Medical Center in an alleged hate crime

Rose Mary Ayala, a Hispanic woman, has been charged with a felony count of hate crime battery. The alleged victim — a black certified nursing assistant — was serving coffee to patients in a medical center lounge when Ayala allegedly taunted the black man with racial slurs. Having ignored Ayala's verbal abuse, the assistant proceeded to grab sugar for another patient, and that's when Ayala walked up behind him and dumped hot coffee on his right leg. If convicted, Ayala could face up to three years in prison.

Chief, what's that gotta do with the veracity, or lack there of, of the story in question? Did the thrill of righteous indignation and effortless virtue make the incident go away?
