Black man admits to exposing five people to HIV, but faces only one year in jail

Darryl Fortner has admitted that he had unprotected sex with five people - including a 15-year-old girl - but didn't tell them he knew he carried the virus that causes AIDS. That admission will likely mean a one-year jail sentence. After the 20-year-old Buffalo man pleaded guilty to five counts of misdemeanor reckless endangerment, State Supreme Court Justice Russell P. Buscaglia said that he would sentence Fortner to one year in jail, unless the judge learns something in an upcoming pre-sentencing report that changes his mind. The victims' ages at the time of their encounters with Fortner were 15, 17, 19, 20 and 21.
