A two-year-old has died after being shot in the mouth by his mother’s black boyfriend

African-American Wakir Bryant, 27, was arrested after shooting toddler Mikhy Robinson at his mother’s Newark, New Jersey apartment. Bryant has been arrested on aggravated manslaughter charges and weapons offences. Bail was set at $1 million. He has been in and out of jail since 2004 on charges including unlawful possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, aggravated assault with a firearm and several drug distribution charges. He was last released from prison on June 1, 2011. Mikhy's death was the 90th homicide in 2011 in predominantly black Newark, which has seen an 8% jump in homicides this year.
